South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association
"The South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association connects and empowers individuals impacted by spinal cord injury to pursue a meaningful and engaged quality of life. Individuals with spinal cord injury find valuable resources for their needs, questions, and concerns through the programs and services of the SCSCIA. Individuals impacted by SCI discover a powerful source of strength by connecting with others who have experienced similar, life-altering injuries. SCSCIA also provides information, education, and support to family members and professionals who serve those with spinal cord injuries."
Low Country Breeze Support Group
"The Breeze Peer Support groups bring together people who are experiencing or have experienced SCI. Our support groups provide opportunities for our members to get out of the house, fellowship, meet new people, and learn about things pertaining to spinal cord injury. Breeze groups also gather for fun activities and outings.
Meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of each month, from 6:00PM - 7:00PM at MUSC Health Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health
Please contact Barbara Delia (deliabarbara68@yahoo.com) or Greg Halbart (Gregory.Halbart@encompasshealth.com)"
SCSCIA Peer Mentoring
"These meetings will take place by phone, or on a virtual platform that works best for you. All of your discussions are completely confidential, and mentors will only share information about resources you need with association staff, when necessary. This program is a great opportunity to gain some knowledge, and heck, you may even get a new friend out of it! Also, the association is currently recruiting mentors from around the state."
Wives and Girlfriends of Spinal Cord Injury
"We have formed a meet up and support group exclusively for Wives/Girlfriends of men who have sustained a Spinal Cord Injury, where we can discuss our experiences and learn from one another. Our #1 goal is to provide outreach in our communities to ensure that we are there for women who are new to this life. We believe in creating a community of support, friendship and love with no judgements. We believe in the power of "in person" connection and friendship. We also function to connect women in dual role relationships with others close to them!"
MUSC Neurological Exercise & Training (NExT) Wellness Center
"The MUSC Neurological Exercise & Training (NExT) Wellness Center is a safe, accessible place for individuals managing a neurological condition like stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, or dementia, to participate in regular exercise. At first glance, NExT looks like any other gym, with barbells, racks, dumbbells and exercise machines, plus a few pieces of adaptive equipment. However, it is more than just a gym. It is a place for members to build community and focus on other aspects of wellness, like mental health and emotional well-being, with people who share similar experiences. The NExT Wellness Center bridges a gap for individuals discharged from rehabilitation therapy who may not have the resources available to continue in their recovery journey. In addition to the health benefits and camaraderie, a particularly unique aspect of the NExT program is its research element. Currently, it houses four research studies."
Driving Solutions Program
"Roper Rehabilitation Hospital helps patients improve their skills after a serious accident, injury or disease so they can move toward independency. Our outpatient “Driving Solutions” program can help patients learn safe driving skills. The program is taught by occupational therapists, certified driving instructors from the A Lord Ashley Driving School and certified driving rehabilitation specialists."
RAIZER Lift Machine
"The mobile lifting chair Raizer helps a fallen person up to an almost standing position in a few minutes. Raizer can easily be assembled and operated by only one assistant and does not require any physical effort besides a supportive hand. The design of Raizer makes it easy to assemble and operate and ensures easy cleaning."
